What is the OAS CAHPS survey?
OAS CAHPS — the Outpatient and Ambulatory Surgery Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems — is the standardized survey of patients who had a surgery or procedure at a hospital outpatient department or ambulatory surgery center. It asks how well they were prepared, how staff communicated, and whether they left knowing how to manage their recovery.
Alongside HCAHPS, it is one of only two survey lines requiring its own CMS vendor approval — and Canopy holds both. For rural hospitals that’s not a technicality: most rural surgical care happens outpatient, which makes OAS CAHPS the survey that describes your surgery program.
